Crowd protests as New York City cabbie awaits deportation

August 10, 2018 - 12:38 pm

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Friday is the day a New York City cab driver was scheduled to be deported to Ecuador.

Edisson Barros was arrested by ICE after an NYPD summons against him was dismissed.

That summons was issues when he got into an altercation with a driver who nearly ran over his dog.

A crowd outside of city hall chanted 'free Edisson.'

Elaine said they want more time for her father.

"We need the judge to stop his deportation and to give him back to our family, and the time to adjust his status," she said.

Councilman Francisco Moya says Edisson deserves a shot at a green card after 25 years in the country.

"We're asking the judge for a stay. To deny the deportation of Edisson. Let his case be heard," he said.

Time is running out.
