NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- New York Cares picked the right day to launch its 30th annual coat drive.

Their goal is to collect 130,000 coats this winter.

Thursday's launch was marked by a coat distribution at the Island School on East Houston Street.

Now through December 31, New York Cares is asking people to donate new or gently used and freshly laundered coats, at hundreds of locations throughout the city. They include police precincts, major transit hubs, certain auto dealerships, and select library branches in Queens.

They will also accept cash donations. Just text 'Coat' to 41444 to donate $20.
