New US COVID-19 cases top 63K, a single-day record

    NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The U.S. reported more than 63,000 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, its highest single-day increase so far, according to reports. 

    States across the country reported a total of 63,200 new cases on Thursday, CBS News reported, citing data from Johns Hopkins University.

    That figure surpassed the previous record high of 60,000 new cases reported Tuesday, according to the outlet. 

    On Wednesday, California, Florida and Texas all reported the highest single-day death tolls they have seen since the start of the pandemic, the outlet reported. 

    As of Friday morning, the U.S. was reporting a total of 3,131,953 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 133,420 deaths, Johns Hopkins University’s COVID-19 dashboard shows.
