New Jersey reports 14 new COVID-19 deaths, 498 new cases

TRENTON, NJ (1010 WINS) -- New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy reported 14 new COVID-19 deaths and 498 new positive cases on Tuesday. 

A total of 185,475 COVID-19 tests conducted in the state have now come back positive, and 14,037 people have died of complications related to the virus, Murphy said.

Four of the 14 people who died passed away on Aug. 7; three passed away on Aug. 4, five passed away in July; and two passed away in April, he said. 

As of Monday night, 538 people in the state were hospitalized with confirmed or probable COVID-19 cases, 101 of whom were in intensive care units and 43 of whom were on ventilators, the state’s COVID-19 tracker shows.

New Jersey’s rate of transmission currently stands at 0.94.
