New Jersey man killed in hit-and-run, police searching for driver

RIDGEWOOD, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- New Jersey police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a pedestrian Monday.

The victim, identified as 54-year-old Edward Rao, of Hawthorne, was struck at around 7:20 p.m. in Ridgewood, according to Bergen County prosecutor's office.

Rao was taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities say the suspect fled the scene of the crash heading westbound on West Ridgewood Avenue. Investigators believe the driver was in a dark-colored SUV, but do not know the make or model of the vehicle.
