Neighbors Protest Plan To Turn Midtown Hotel Into Men’s Shelter

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Some people who live on West 58th Street are not happy about the $63-million renovation of the Park Savoy Hotel. That's because it's being renovated so it can be turned into a shelter for 140 men.

Protestors will rally Thursday, outside of the hotel. They say the conversion is too expensive, a danger to residents, and ill-suited for one of the city's most touristic neighborhoods.

The Department of Homeless Services said it will be high quality transitional housing -- more than just a room to sleep in. The department added that people in the neighborhood were given proper notice -- that presumably includes residents of One 57, the city's most expensive apartment building which is just a block away.
