NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A former NBC 4 intern who attended Boston University was shot to death by her mother, who then turned the gun on herself Wednesday, NBC 4 reported.

Erin Edwards, 20, and her 24-year-old brother Christopher Edwards were killed in their home near Atlanta according to authorities.

Their mother, Marsha Edwards, 58, shot herself after shooting her children, officials said.

Erin interned for NBC 4 this summer while on break from college, according to the station.

“All of us in the newsroom just shocked to hear this news,” said NBC evening anchor Stefan Holt said on a Thursday newscast. “Erin was a special person — exuberant, cheerful, a gifted story teller who just had a passion for journalism and it showed.”

Marsha Edwards founded a medical equipment supply company.

“I’ve had the best summer, first with [Chris] in Miami, and Erin in Italy,” Marsha Edwards wrote in her final Instagram post Wednesday. “I could not ask for better children.”

Christopher Edwards was a digital content manager for the Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Film and Entertainment.

Marsha's ex-husband, who was the father of Erin and Christopher, Dr. Chris Edwards is a surgeon in the area.

A family spokesperson released a statement to WXIA which said, “Dr. Christopher Edwards learned Wednesday of the death of his former wife, Dr. Marsha Edwards, and his two adult children, Christopher Edwards, Jr. and Erin Edwards. Dr. Edwards, his extended family and friends are in a state of grief and shock, and privacy of the family is paramount as arrangements are being made.”

Police are investigating potential motives.
