NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The National Guard arrived in Westchester for the start of the two week contamination zone which began Thursday.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced on Tuesday that he would deploy the National Guard to help clean public spaces and distribute food to quarantined people in New Rochelle which has been deemed the "hotspot" for the nation's biggest known cluster of coronavirus cases.

Apart from those who are under quarantine, residents and visitors will be able to come and go freely with no checkpoints set up withing the one mile containment zone, which extends in all directions from a synagogue connected to some of the infections.

Three schools and other gathering places such as temples and churches will be shut down during the two week period but businesses can remain open.

Currently, there are 186 confirmed cases in New York State with 121 of them in Westchester County.
