HEMPSTEAD, NY (1010 WINS) -- Nassau County Police have made another arrest in connection with a suspected MS-13 murder.

Jose Quintanilla Cruz, 23, of Hempstead will be arraigned Thursday, on a charge of second degree murder.

Prosecutors say 21-year-old Carlos Rivas-Majano of Uniondale was killed in a machete attack, and his body buried in a shallow grave in East Meadow. Sources say he was targeted because he was an informant.

“Again, we are reminded of the brutality of gang violence,” Nassau County Executive Laura Curran said when the body was discovered. “There are too many parents, too many families, who have seen their children butchered by these gangs, and this must stop.”

Majano's body was found near Kellenberg High School on the first day of school.

Cruz was the second arrest in the killing. Carlos Benitez-Hernandez of Uniondale -- an illegal immigrant from El Salvador -- was charged last month with murder and was in ISE custody at the time of his arrest.

Cops say an island-wide crackdown on MS-13 has helped prevent murders in Nassau County.
