Nadler: Trump is ‘disgusting and racist’... ‘richly deserves impeachment’

July 28, 2019 - 1:58 pm

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – During TV interviews Sunday, Rep. Jerry Nadler called President Trump “disgusting and racist” for attacking a Maryland lawmaker and said Democrats are still pursuing impeachment evidence against him.

Nadler slammed the president’s attacks on Rep. Elijah Cummings, the chairman of the House Oversight and Reform Committee, during an interview on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday morning.

On Saturday, Trump tweeted that Cummings’ Baltimore district is “a disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess.” He continued to attack Cummings on Twitter Sunday.

“The president is as he usually is or often is, disgusting and racist. He makes these charges with no base at all,” Nadler said. “And they are designed to attract attention away from the very serious allegations about his conduct that came from the Mueller committee hearings this week.”

As the House Judiciary Committee moves to obtain secret grand jury material from special counsel Robert Mueller’s report, Nadler, who is the committee’s chairman, says the impeachment of the president remains a possibility.

The New York Democrat told CNN’s State of the Union that Trump “richly deserves impeachment” because he “has done many impeachable offenses.”

“We’re investigating the corruptions of the administration, the abuses of power, what Mueller showed, the possible violations of the Emoluments Clause. All the things that might cause us to recommend articles of impeachment,” he said.

A new ABC/IPSOS poll taken after Mueller’s testimony to Congress last week shows the split over impeachment continues between Democrats and Republicans, with few who read, saw or heard the testimony saying it changed their minds.
