"They were drag racing," a responding firefighter told the Brooklyn Paper.

Just before midnight, police were called to the scene at Fifth Avenue between Fifth Street and Sixth Street in the Park Slope section.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered several damaged cars and parts scattered around in the street and on the sidewalk.

EMS transported five people to Methodist Hospital to be treated for their injuries.

"They were definitely racing," Elias Mandel told the Brooklyn Paper. "I just heard a bunch of cars speeding, and then a series of loud bangs."

A spokesperson for the NYPD could not immediately confirm whether the crash was a resulted of illegal drag racing.

There have been no arrests made and an investigation is ongoing.
