NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A mother of six and grandmother was shot and killed in Coney Island – one of two bystanders shot in broad daylight during a dispute between two men, police say.

An argument between the two men turned deadly after stray bullets flew near the intersection of West 33rd Street and Neptune Avenue shortly before 11:45 a.m. Monday, according to police.

One of the bullets hit a 47-year-old construction worker in the leg; another bullet hit his colleague, 53-year-old Dorothy Dixon, in the chest.

Dixon died from her injuries at Coney Island Hospital, police say.

The 47-year-old worker is at Lutheran Hospital in stable condition.

NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea said the shooting was not random and that the two men involved knew each other. He said the shooter is still at large.

“We have reports of a dark-colored SUV fleeing the scene,” Shea said, adding that the man who was shot at also fled.

The shooting startled residents like Amaria Vasquez.

“I’m shocked,” Vasquez told NBC 4. “It’s been safe. It’s been okay around here.”
