NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police charged a Queens man accused of fatally stabbing his girlfriend last Friday while her daughter watched.

On July 3, officials said 41-year-old Carmelo Mendoza knifed 45-year-old Yaqueline Collado in the chest, neck, and torso at his Jackson Heights apartment.

Prosecutors say Mendoza then stabbed himself in the stomach repeatedly following the dispute.

Collado was stabbed a total of 14 times, prosecutors say.

A criminal complaint states that at some point, Collado told her 19-year-old daughter, who also lives in the apartment, to leave so that she would not hear them arguing.

Prosecutors said the teen was in her room when she heard her mother scream her name.

The girl ran out and officials allege she saw Mendoza stab her mom multiple times and tried to push him off her.

Officials said she even began throwing various items at him in an attempt to get him to stop.

At some point Mendoza fell to the ground, prosecutors said, but he eventually got back up and allegedly continued to stab Collado.

The daughter's leg was slashed when she tried to step in.

She then heard her mother say to her, in Spanish, "I’m dying, leave," officials said.

The teen rushed out of the apartment and began to scream for help while knocking on her neighbors' doors, according to prosecutors.

She then called her boyfriend and 911.

Upon arrival, NYPD found Mendoza lying on top of the victim, who was dead, in a pool of blood.

A kitchen knife was recovered nearby.

The cause of the argument remains unclear.

If convicted, Mendoza faces up to life in prison.
