NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A Bronx woman is fighting for her life after being attacked with a machete or knife in the Bronx Friday night, police said, and her boyfriend has been charged.

The 20-year-old woman was at her mother’s house in the Bronx around 9:15 p.m. at the time of the assault, according to police.

The victim and her young daughter had just moved into the building on the Grand Concourse, near East 196th Street in the Fordham Manor section, about a month ago.

The building’s super, Ernesto, said word from neighbors was that she was trying to stay away from her boyfriend, who was allegedly abusive.

But police said the boyfriend arrived Friday night and attacked her with a knife or machete, stabbing her in the neck and back.

“So one guy tried to help her, tried to stop the guy, but you know, happened anyway,” Ernesto said.

Hector Delacruz, a 27-year-old from Paterson, New Jersey, was arrested near the scene of the attack. He is said to be the father of the woman's daughter.

He has been charged with attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

The woman was listed in critical condition at St. Barnabas Hospital.
