MMA Star Conor McGregor Expresses Regret In Court Over Barclays Melee

June 14, 2018 - 10:51 am

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/AP) — Mixed Martial Arts star Conor McGregor was in court Thursday for a hearing on charges stemming from a backstage melee that was caught on video.

Plea negotiations were underway in Brooklyn for McGregor and his friend and co-defendant Cian Cowley.

Video showed what appeared to be McGregor hurling a hand truck at a bus full of fighters after a news conference for the UFC 223 event at Barclays Center in April. Two fighters hurt by broken glass were unable to compete.

Cowley said on Saturday that he hoped to get the case "out of the way."

1010 WINS' Juliet Papa tweeted there was no grand jury action and McGregor's next court date will be July 26. But in court Thursday, he expressed regret for his behavior.

If convicted, McGregor could face as much as 7 years in prison.

Cowley and McGregor have been free on bond. They took a private jet together from Ireland for the hearing.
