NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The days of the Metro Card are numbered. It's supposed to be replaced by the 'Tap And Go' fare payment system that will allow riders to use mobile wallets or bank cards to pay for their rides.

The MTA has announced that the system will debut next May on a stretch of the 4, 5, 6 line and across all bus routes on Staten Island.

The MTA is currently testing the new fare readers and plans to begin the process of installing them as soon as October.
