NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – It feels more like July than May this Memorial Day weekend, as residents head to beaches and backyards for the unofficial beginning of summer.

A cold front will worked its way through the Tri-State last night, bringing breezy and less humid weather for Memorial Day.

Highs will be in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees Monday under mostly sunny skies, AccuWeather says. It’s a perfect day for a trip to the shores of Long Island or New Jersey.

But be warned: the ocean is still chilly, with water temperatures only in the 50s.

Nine-year-old Madison learned that after jumping into the water at Coney Island Beach on Sunday.

“The water is very cold,” she told 1010 WINS’ Roger Stern.

The ocean breeze made Coney Island chillier than the rest of the city, but that didn’t stop people from flocking to the beach and Luna Park.

“It’s a beautiful day,” said Otto, who came over from Staten Island. “Not a cloud in the sky. It’s blue, it’s beautiful. The ocean – look at the water, it’s beautiful. Everybody’s playing, having fun.”

Highs will warm from the 60s into the 80s over the course of the workweek, AccuWeather says, with showers possible on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
