Melania Trump’s flight lands safely after smoke, burning smell detected

CAMP SPRINGS, MD (1010 WINS) -- Smoke and a burning smell were reported on First Lady Melania Trump's flight to Philadelphia on Wednesday morning.

The flight was returned to Andrews Air Force Base where it landed safely following the mechanical issue.

One reporter on the flight tweeted that the press was told to hold wet towels over their faces if the smell got too strong, but it eventually dissipated.

The First Lady is okay, and nobody was hurt.

A reporter on the flight tweeted that the problem developed about 10 minutes after takeoff. Press and officials were calmly led off the tarmac.

Mrs. Trump was on her way to Philadelphia for an event about opioids.
