Mayor Bill de Blasio reports for jury duty

August 01, 2018 - 10:21 am

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Mayor Bill de Blasio did his civic duty on Wednesday, reporting for consideration for jury selection in Manhattan.

With his move from Park Slope to Gracie Mansion, Manhattan Criminal Court came calling for de Blasio.

The mayor showed up right on time at 9 a.m. for jury duty.

"Ready to do it," the mayor said.

Back in October of 2015, First Lady Chirlane McCray tried to get out of jury duty, saying she was too busy to do it. She finally decided to do it, and was dismissed after two days.

The last mayor who actually served on a jury was Rudy Giuliani in 1999. He was named the jury foreman in a civil case involving a man who sued his landlord claiming he was burned by scalding water in the shower.

Giuliani and the rest of the panel rejected the claim.
