Massive Fire In Queens Causes Suspensions, Major LIRR Delays

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Another day, another LIRR delay.

A massive fire in Queens made for a nightmare commute Friday.

The fire near train tracks  broke around 1:30 p.m. Friday at Jamaica and Hollis Avenues and quickly grew to five alarms.


LIRR train service was suspended in both directions on the Port Jefferson, Ronkonkoma, Oyster Bay and Hempstead branches for a few hours and causing delays on other branches.

There was also major overcrowding at Penn Station.

Service was eventually restored with residual delays.
