BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- There's been another murder at Binghamton University, and once again the victim is from the New York City area.

The suspect in custody is 20-year-old Michael Roque of Massapequa. He's been charged with second degree murder, and has pled not guilty.

Police say Roque stabbed 19-year-old Joao Souza inside his dorm room on Sunday night.

"It's been a very difficult day for our community, the tragic loss of a young person," Binghamton President Harvey Stenger said.

Former classmates remembered Souza fondly. Sammy Landino attended Blind Brook High School in Rye Brook with the victim.

"On the field, off the field, in the classroom, out of the classroom, the man was all around a wonderful person," he said.

Police wouldn't say what led to the stabbing, but they insisted that it was not random.

Souza's was the second killing of a Binghamton student in the last two months. On March 9, Haley Anderson's body was found strangled in the apartment of a fellow student.
