BOISE, Idaho (1010 WINS) -- Police in Idaho say revenge was the motive behind a mass stabbing at a 3-year-old's birthday party.

At a news conference on Sunday, Boise Police Chief William Bones said suspect Timothy Kinner had been kicked out of the apartment complex before his rampage.

"Due to his behavior he had been asked to leave, and he had done so, and he returned last night to exact vengeance. Not just on those who he had been with, as they were not at the apartment, but any target which was available," he said.

Some of the victims were refugees from Syria, Iraq and Ethiopia. Kinner is from Los Angeles. Cops say there's no indication it was a hate crime, but the FBI is helping to investigate.

Nine people including six children between the ages of three and twelve were stabbed in the Saturday night attack. Four of the victims have life-threatening injuries.
