NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – An off-duty NYPD officer was attacked with a bicycle chain by a masked man in a lower Manhattan subway station this week.

Sources tell 1010 WINS that the 37-year-old female officer was riding a northbound 2 train that had just arrived at Park Place around 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon when she was struck in the face with the metal chain.

Police said the suspect, who was standing on the platform in a white surgical mask at the time, pelted her with the chain as the doors of the train opened.

After the attack, the man got on the same train the officer was on and rode it to the next stop, Chambers Street.

The officer was taken to New York-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital to be treated for swelling and bruising on her face.

Police released surveillance video of the suspect on Wednesday. It shows him exiting the Chambers Street subway station.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
