NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A man apparently stabbed his girlfriend to death before leaping to his death at her apartment building in Washington Heights on New Year’s Day.

Law enforcement sources tell 1010 WINS that 50-year-old Yuberkis Paulino was found stabbed to death Tuesday morning in her apartment at Wadsworth Avenue and 179th Street.

Paulina’s boyfriend, Pablo Castro, knifed her before jumping off her sixth-floor balcony and plummeting to his death on a second-floor landing, the sources said.

It appears to be domestic, according to the sources.

The building’s porter, Francisco, remembered Paulino as a “very good lady.”

“12 or 15 year I know her,” he said.

Benita lives in the building and says this is an age when no one has regard for life.

“Unfortunately that’s the world we live in now,” she said. “Stuff like that doesn’t surprise me anymore.”

For residents like Izzy, it was a sorrowful awakening to 2019.

“I feel like things this should never happen,” he said. “It’s the first day of the year – that’s a hell of a way to start.”
