EAST ATLANTIC BEACH, N.Y. (1010 WINS) – A man was arrested on Long Island after police say he kidnapped, raped and beat a woman he met online.

The 31-year-old woman is recovering from a fractured skull, broken nose, cuts, bruises and other injuries after the violent attack on Oct. 1.

Adan Alvarez, 23, faces a long list of charges, including rape, assault, strangulation, unlawful imprisonment, kidnapping, criminal trespass and burglary.

"It turned into a horrific evening," Nassau District Attorney Madeline Singas said. "She was brutally attacked, brutally raped, and this defendant will be held to account."

Police say the two met on a social media site called Locanto and then met up at a home on Oswego Avenue in East Atlantic Beach.

But things turned violent when the woman tried to leave the home. Police say Alvarez restrained her and then beat and sexually assaulted her.

Alvarez took off after the attack and the woman managed to free herself and escape, according to police.

Police ultimately nabbed Alvarez on Oct. 4 after an East Atlantic Beach resident called about a trespasser in their shed.
