Man pushed onto subway tracks at Union Square station

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police are investigating after a man was pushed onto the tracks at the Union Square station on Wednesday morning.

Officials say the incident occurred just after at 9 a.m. on the platform of the NQRW line.

According to reports, a man wearing a red jacket and a red hat pushed the victim onto the tracks.

The victim was not struck by a train, but hit his head on the track bed, police said.

He was assisted back onto the platform.

EMS was requested at the scene for a head injury and he was transported to Bellevue Hospital in serious condition.

The suspect fled the scene authorities say.

Subway service has not been affected and an investigation is ongoing.
