NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A man pretending to be a police officer walked into a 99 cent store in Hamilton Heights with a clipboard and demanded medical face masks, the NYPD said.

The approximately 45-year-old man walked into BEST HOME 99¢ on Broadway, near West 146th Street, around 2:15 p.m. on March 27 wearing a police shield around his neck and carrying a clipboard, police said.

The man, who was already wearing a mask, then demanded an unspecified number of medical masks before fleeing the store, the NYPD said.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether or not he ended up leaving with any masks.

He was last seen wearing a black skull cap, a jean jacket, dark pants and light brown work boots, according to police.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
