LONG BEACH, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- The Coast Guard is searching for a missing swimmer off Long Beach.

Reports say a 31-year-old man was swimming with a friend when he disappeared in very rough surf at about 2 a.m. His friend made it to shore and called for help.

"I don't know what's wrong with people going in the water late at night. I can't understand the logic," a resident told CBS2.

Crews have been searching the rough water by boat and by air.

The search comes as another search, for a boy went missing after sneaking away from his parents to swimming off Long Island, may have come to a tragic end.

A child's body was found in the water off Long Beach at 12:30 Sunday, afternoon.

The Nassau Medical Examiner is working to identify the remains, but the find comes days after a 10-year-old boy and his brother took a bus from Hempstead to Ocean Beach Park without their parents, and went swimming.

At about 6 p.m. Tuesday, the waters became choppy and the boy was pulled from his brother.

Authorities were waiting for word from the medical examiner to release an ID.
