Man Found Shot To Death Next Door To Scene Of Bushwick Houses Execution

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- On Friday night, cops were dealing with a murder in apartment 5C of a building at the Bushwick Houses. On Sunday night, they were back at apartment 5D.

Even though the body of 54-year-old Basil Gray wasn't found until Sunday, police believe he was killed Friday -- the same day as his neighbor 62-year-old Ana Delvalle.

Gray was shot multiple times in the body, Delvalle was shot in the head and her hands were tied.

"Members of the deceased's family came to check on him, as they did not hear from him since Thursday evening, this was unusual," NYPD Deputy Chief Michael Kemper said. "Upon arriving and opening his apartment door, they observed him lying on the floor unconscious."

Cops say Gray and Delvalle were likely both killed Friday morning. According to NYPD Chief of Detective Dermot Shea both were shot multiple times.

"We did recover shell casings in both incidents and they were of the same caliber firearm," he said.

Law enforcement sources say investigators are looking at the possibility that Gray was killed for having seen who killed his neighbor who was also tied up and robbed.

What isn't clear is why Delvalle was targeted -- she did not have a criminal history.

Authorities have been going door to door in the building and reaching out to local violence interruptors in the hope of preventing violence in retaliation.
