NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A man has been charged with murder after he allegedly intentionally drove his car into a family of eight, including six children, outside a 7-Eleven in Haverstraw in Rockland County, police said, killing a woman who was reportedly pregnant.

The woman, 32, was killed, and a man and a child, 2, were seriously injured police said. The woman was identified as Melissa Deloatch.

Police identified the suspect as Jason Mendez, 35, and charged with second-degree murder, 7 counts of second degree attempted murder, menacing in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree and resisting arrest.

The incident happened around 2 p.m. Wednesday.

According to WABC, citing a 7-Eleven employee, a man smoking outside the 7-Eleven became "enraged" when the father asked the man not to smoke around his children.

An argument followed, which ended with the man allegedly driving into the 7-Eleven, hitting all members of the family.

Police say the driver, identified as 35-year-old Jason Mendez, emerged from the car with a knife, and officers tased him and took him into custody.

Haverstraw Police Captain Martin Lund said that Mendez, “Deliberately, it appears, deliberately, took the vehicle and rammed it into these individuals and subsequently into the store itself, and then we believe backed up the vehicle and subsequently hit the victims again.”

Adding to the tragedy, The Daily News reports that the mother who was killed was pregnant.

A 7-Eleven worker said the woman wasn't moving after the chaos unfolded.

"She was laying on the ground. Nobody was around her. It was -- kind of knew that she wasn't going to make it," the worker said.
