Police say the driver of the Volvo fled the scene on foot prompting an officer to run after him.

During the chase, officials say Jones fired at the officer and missed.

The officer then returned fire and continued the pursuit but Jones got away.

Jones was charged with Aggravated Attempted Murder second Degree, Attempted Murder second Degree, Criminal Use of a Firearm first Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance fifth Degree, Resisting Arrest, and Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident with Personal Injury.

Jones is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Jan. 6.
