Man charged after swinging sword on Empire State Building's observation deck

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 35-year old man is in police custody Friday afternoon after he managed to get to the Empire State Building's observation deck and started swinging at visitors -- with a sword, 1010 WINS has confirmed.

Police officers ordered the man to drop the weapon and he complied. 

It is unclear how he managed to enter the building with the weapon.

Video released by the NYPD shows a man with a sword being apprehended by officers. 

No one was injured. 

The man was transported to Bellevue Hospital for observation.

The suspect was later identified as Matthew Dixon, 35, of Lorton, Virginia. He was charged with criminal possesson of a weapon.

A spokesperson for the landmark told 1010 WINS,  “Earlier today there was an incident which was resolved without any interruption of Observatory operations or impact to any guests.”
