August 30, 2018 - 5:08 pm

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/AP) -- A 29-year-old New York City man is dead after he was pulled from the water at Orchard Beach in the Bronx Wednesday night.

Police say 29-year-old Adolfo Munoz went missing while he was swimming after 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Divers began searching for the Munoz after receiving calls from multiple swimmers. Authorities say he was unconscious when he was pulled from the water.

He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

"It was dark," FDNY Chief John Esposito said. "There were still people on the beach. A lot of frantic, frantic panic about a missing swimmer in the water."

WABC-TV reported, citing unnamed sources, that Munoz may have been intoxicated.

Lifeguards are on duty until 6 p.m., and swimming is only allowed when lifeguards are on duty.
