NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A man who was robbed of $1,000 at knife point inside a Bronx subway station attempted to chase after the thieves, only to be robbed again by their accomplices, police said Sunday.

Police are searching for five men who they say conspired and robbed a 25-year-old man who had just entered the 6 train at the E 149th Street stop in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx.

At approximately 2:15 a.m., on Saturday, a man and woman began to threaten the victim with a knife, demanding he hand over his bookbag, police said.

The backpack contained his wallet, three credit cards and $1,000 in cash, prompting the victim to chase after the thieves who attempted to flee.

Three other men who apparently were colluding with the thieves, jumped in, taking the victim's Samsung Galaxy phone, MetroCard and headphones, officials said.

Authorities say one of the men hit the victim before the group ran out of the station.

The victim declined medical attention.

Police urge anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-8477.
