NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – The TV show “Mad Men” brought talented advertising gurus to life on the small screen. Now there’s “Mag Men”—two of the city’s iconic graphic designers putting their work between the pages of a new book.

Walter Bernard was hired by New York Magazine founding partner Milton Glaser.

“I think they all realized that putting out a weekly was not as easy as they thought,” Bernard said told 1010 WINS’ Juliet Papa.

At New York Magazine, they collaborated with Gloria Steinem, Jimmy Breslin, Tom Wolfe and other ground-breakers.

“The thing we had to really do was really bond with the city—help people figure out how to live in New York,” Bernard said.

Bernard went on to work for Time, The Washington Post and The Atlantic.

Milton Glaser’s award-winning work has included the iconic “I Love New York” logo.

Both Bernard and Glaser still work at the same building—a former Tammany Hall headquarters.

“Mag Men” chronicles their design and collaboration on many of the nation’s best-known publications.
