FARMINGVILLE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- An incoming senior at Long Island's Sachem North High School has died.

Neither police nor the school have identified the student or are talking about the cause.

On Monday night, police got a call about a sick or injured person at Sachem East. ABC7NY reports the 17-year-old girl was at an authorized school function when she had a medical incident.

"It is with deep sorrow that the district has learned that an incoming senior at Sachem North High School tragically passed away last night," Superintendent Kenneth Graham said in a statement. "We are currently not aware of the cause of death."

Whatever happened was traumatic enough that support services were being made available at both high schools on Tuesday.
