VALLEY STREAM, NY (1010 WINS) -- A teacher at a private school on Long Island is charged with raping a student with whom he'd had a sexual relationship for nearly three years.

Through his attorney teacher Daniel McMenamin pleaded not guilty to over two dozen charges, including having a sexual relationship with a student.

"These are very old allegations. He believes and has told me they are not true," attorney William Jay said.

The 33-year-old Valley Stream man is accused of starting the relationship when the girl was just 14, and he was teaching math at the Lawrence Woodmere Academy.

Bail was posted at $280,000 -- even higher than the prosecutor requested.

"He's never been arrested, he voluntarily surrendered himself. I thought it was inordinately excessive," his attorney said.

McMenamin's mother was in court. She left in a hurry, saying only that she stands by her son.
