OCEANSIDE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) – A 1010 WINS listener who lives on Long Island was so moved by the story of a terminally ill comic fan that he sent our radio station a collection of comics to send to him.

Earlier this month, Reddit user Alexander Q wrote that he's suffering from a genetic disease that took his sister's life last year. The 33-year-old Marvel comics fan says he has liver and mouth cancers and bone marrow failure. He's afraid he won't make it to see the new Marvel film “Avengers: Endgame” in the spring.

John Dorian, from Oceanside, is also a big fan of Marvel comics, so he mailed 1010 WINS a package of vintage comic books to pass along to Alexander.

“Years ago, I had a similar problem. When I see this guy’s story, it made me think back to that time, and I started thinking that this guy is probably not going to be alive,” Dorian told 1010 WINS.

Dorian says he empathizes with Alexander because his life was saved by a liver transplant.

“I had these comic books. I don’t even remember where I got them from. I say to myself, ‘It’s such a shame, people that have these ailments and conditions that have such little time, and I know what it feels like,’” he said.

1010 WINS is forwarding the package of comics to Alexander.

Reddit users have rallied behind Alexander and lobbied Disney to setup a screening of “Avengers: Endgame” ahead of its April 26 release date.

The hashtag #avengers4alexander caught on and Disney says it plans to set up a screening for him to see the movie.
