LAFAYETTE, La (1010 WINS) -- The library in Lafayette, Louisiana has reached an agreement with the ACLU to allow 'Drag Queen Story Time' to go on as planned.

The ACLU had argued that anyone is legally allowed to reserve library meeting space for any constitutionally protected purpose.

“The library's unjust and discriminatory ban targeted LGBTQ Louisianans and violated our clients’ First Amendment rights,” said Katie Schwartzmann, ACLU of Louisiana legal director. “This is welcome news for our clients and everyone in Lafayette who will once again be able to use library facilities without being unfairly interrogated or censored by library officials.”

'Drag Queen Story Time' features drag queens reading books to children.

The New York Public Library participates in the program.
