TRENTON, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- New Jersey has an official state animal; the horse, its official fruit is blueberry, and the common blue violet is the official state flower.

What New Jersey doesn't have is an official state dog.

Republican State Senator Anthony Bucco wants to change that.

He's sponsoring a bill to name the 'seeing eye dog' as the state dog of New Jersey.

Bucco says the designation would honor 'Seeing Eye' the national service organization which has its headquarters in Morristown and has been training service animals since 1929.

There are 13 states with an official state dog.
