NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Jewish communities around the country are on edge after what happened in Pittsburgh.

On Tuesday morning, social media was abuzz with a report of a man threatening people with a knife at a synagogue on East 22nd Street in Midwood, Brooklyn.

It was a disturbing scene and local residents were concerned enough to call the police on the emotionally disturbed man outside of the Shaul U Miriam Synagogue.

"People tell me don't come upstairs," Iris David said.

David was helping with a briss in the basement attended by at least 50 people. She said cops came immediately and took the man away.

Ralph Rolo is a member of the congregation.

"It concerns me of course, but it's very protected, we keep it very safe, we have barriers, we have cameras," he said.

There's a security lock on the front door that requires a combination.
