NEW YORK (1010WINS) -- When fans of the "Star Wars" franchise join forces with fans of the coming-of-age 1990s TV series "Felicity," the internet nearly breaks.

That's what happened Friday, when Variety reported, according to unnamed sources, that "Felicity" star Keri Russell is in talks to join J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars: Episode IX."

According to Variety, Abrams and Lucasfilm execs "met with several actresses for the role in the past two months and settled on Russell right before the Fourth of July holiday."

It’s unknown whether Russell will be on the side of the rebels or the evil empire.

Russell, 42, collaborated with Abrams on 2006's "Mission: Impossible III."

While "Felicity" was significantly tamer than any "Star Wars" film would be, Russell has shown off her action chops in the FX series "The Americans," as well as "Mission: Impossible III" and "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes."
