NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Cameras reportedly caught City Councilman Jumaane Williams’ car speeding in school zones 18 times since 2016.

Some of the 18 tickets were contested; he was found guilty of others; and he paid the fines for some, according to a report in the Daily News.

Williams has rallied in the past against lowering the speed limit on city streets to 25 mph, saying that it was an arbitrary number.

He did vote this past summer to turn speed cameras back on after they were shut down because of inaction by the legislature in Albany.

Williams has said he takes full ownership of the tickets even though he may not have been the one behind the wheel in some of the cases.

He also said the tickets story is part of a political attack against him.

Williams plans on running to be the city's public advocate after he ran for New York lieutenant governor this year and lost.
