Joey Chestnut Hopes To Be Top Dog Again

July 03, 2018 - 5:34 pm

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Joey Chestnut is hoping to be top dog once again.

Wednesday is the 4th of July, and it's a big day for Chestnut -- he has a title to defend.

Chestnut, 34, weighed in Tuesday morning at the Empire State Building a day before the annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest. "I feel great," Chestnut said at the weigh in. "I'm hungry and my body's working for me. I know my body more than I ever have in the past."

Chestnut, nicknamed "Jaws," won the competitive eating contest for the 10th time last year, when he shoveled down 72 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes.

He'll try to top that number on Wednesday. "I've done this before - I've been in this position and I've broken records in the past," Chestnut said Tuesday.

The contest will be held at Nathan's Coney Island.

The two top winners each earn $10,000.
