MTA Hosts Interfaith Solidarity Bus Ride After Viral Anti-Muslim Tirade

July 15, 2018 - 5:26 pm

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- An interfaith solidarity ride took place Sunday afternoon in Bay Ridge, in response to xenophobic rant aimed at a Muslim woman.

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams organized the ride aboard a city bus after a video surfaced showing a woman yelling at another woman in a headscarf telling her “ICE is here for you.”

The encounter, which was captured on a video that has since gone viral, showed Ashley yelling at the woman in a headscarf, telling her "she thinks she has rights she doesn't have"

Adams joined community leaders and women wearing the traditional hijab, aboard the S53 bus across the Verrazano Bridge in an effort to send a message of unity.

He planned to address riders’ concerns about feeling unwelcome or unsafe. He noted recent evidence showing a spring in hate crimes here and nationwide.
