The 'Unconditional Surrender' sculptures appear around the United States, with one in New Jersey and another in New York City. The original was installed in Sarasota, Florida before being moved to San Diego. The statue was re-installed in Sarasota in 2012.

On Tuesday morning, police found #MeToo spray painted on the leg of the nurse featured in the Sarasota statue.

Cops did not find any spray paint at the scene, and surveillance cameras did not capture the vandalism.

The sailor in the original photograph passed away of congestive heart failure on Sunday just days shy of his 96th birthday.
