Ice Cube to WINS: I’ll become a stalker to bring Kobe to BIG3

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The BIG3 basketball championship will be decided in Brooklyn on Friday night.

Power and 3's Company will play each other at 8 p.m. at Barclay's Center -- the league got its start in Brooklyn.

"Brooklyn showed us a lot of love," Ice Cube told 1010 WINS, "We wanted to come back with a meaningful game, not just the first game of the season, but to come back with a championship game, and reward Brooklyn for just being down."

When it comes to the league, Ice Cube is a fan first.

"It's great because it's something that if I wasn't involved I would go to see it and I would be watching it every week," he said. "The NBA should have did this 30 years ago."

Cube says the league isn't a business, it's a partnership.

"We share revenue share with the players, all players get paid the same base salary, and coaches," he said.

Players are given a revenue share based on where their team places. Ice Cube credits it with keeping the league competitive.

Ice Cube says he's fully committed to getting Kobe Bryant involved -- they've had some talks, but Kobe hasn't committed. Cube remains undeterred and told WINS he'll become a stalker if it means landing Bryant.

"He's like 'yo, I'm retired Cube," he said, "I'm a stalker, you know what I mean."

August is also the 30th anniversary of the release of Straight Outta Compton. Ice Cube filled WINS in on the music, and what he did with his first big paycheck.
