NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Subways riders were bugged by a giant praying mantis that joined them during their commute on the 6 train.

Among them was City Councilman Keith Powers who posted a photo of the insect hanging out near one of the windows inside the train.

"Like most New Yorkers, I’m frightened by the gigantic praying mantis on the subway but also relieved that he didn’t yell “It’s showtime!” he wrote.

Some New York expressed their disbelief to the photo on social media.

"I've seen roaches. Rats. But that's creepy #citykid." Roger Clark tweeted.

Another tweeter responded in defense of the the mantis, saying it is a "good insect" because of the amount of mosquitoes it consumes on a daily basis.

"I’ve never seen them in the subway though. Hope somebody lets it out on an above ground station." they added.
