NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A newborn baby -- found alone and unconscious behind a Bronx apartment building has died.

The sad discovery was made near a garbage container on East 138th Street near Brook Ave in the Mott Haven section. The baby was not wearing anything, and the umbilical cord was still there.

The person who found the baby flagged down a cop.

The baby was rushed to Lincoln Hospital, but couldn't be saved. No one has been arrested.

A man who lives in the building told 1010 WINS' Sonia Rincon he was heartbroken to hear what happened.

"I was like very heartbroken, I was about to break down in tears, because how could somebody do that?" he said.

Cops are searching for the baby's parents.

There is a subway stop nearby and neighbros say they don't think anyone in the building had given birth.
