NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- For the past 18 years, Cantor Fitzgerald and its affiliate, BGC Partners, have commemorated the 658 friends and colleagues and 61 Eurobrokers employees who lost their lives on 9/11 by raising funds to support charities across the globe.

Their charity work has raised approximately $160 million to date, benefiting 150 charities as well as the families of those lost on 9/11.

The financial giant hands over phone to celebrities like former Yankee Nick Swisher, NHL player Mark Messier and actor John Voight every 9/11 and donates 100 percent of the money raised.

Model Carol Alt is a regular on Cantor Charity Day and thinks this is a great way to put a positive spin on such a tragedy.

"You can't change the past, we can't bring back those we lost but let's, in their memorydo something really great, really positive." Alt says.

Charity Day is Cantor Fitzgerald’s way of turning a tragic day into one that is positive and uplifting by helping others.
